Whoa, it’s been a long time since I did a Spin! They are such a good way to commit to at least one book off the tbr. The rules for the Spin are here if you are not familiar with the Classics Club.
In a nutshell, you make a numbered list of 20 books from your list of over 50 books you have committed to reading in 5 years. The Classic Club gods will pick a number between 1 and 20 (February 8th) and the corresponding title of that number is the book you read. A “due date” is given and hopefully you will finish by then and write a review-March 29th. That, imo, is the tricky bit…..:)
All of these books I want to read, of course, but I would especially love to get numbers 6, 8 16 or 19 for this Spin.
1. Alcott, Louisa May-Good Wives
2. Alcott, Louisa May-Under the Lilacs
3. Blackmore, RD-Lorna Doone
4. Bronte, Charlotte-The Professor
5. Cambridge, Ada-The Three Miss Kings
6. Collins, Wilkie-The Moonstone
7. Crane, Stephen-The Red Badge of Courage
8. Doyle, Arthur Conan-A Study in Scarlet
9. Fitzgerald, F Scott-This Side of Paradise
10. Hawthorne, Nathaniel-The Marble Faun
11. Maugham, W Somerset-The Moon and Sixpence
12. Maugham, W. Somerset-The Painted Veil
13. Pym, Barbara-Excellent Women
14. Sharp, Margery-Cluny Brown
15. Shelley, Mary-The Last Man
16. Steinbeck, John-Sweet Thursday
17. Taylor, Elizabeth-At Mrs. Lippincote’s
18. Wharton, Edith-French Ways and their Meaning
19. Wolf, Emma-Other Things being Equal
20. Woolf, Virginia-Jacob’s Room

Yes, 6 is cool.Here is mine:https://wordsandpeace.com/2026/02/04/the-classics-club-the-classics-spin-43/

Looks like a great list! I have read a few of these and have some of them on my TBR as well. One of these days I’m going to tackle Lorna Doone. I love the series adaptation done by BBC in 2000. Good luck with the spin! 🙂

I wouldn’t mind getting Lorna Doone this spin. I haven’t seen the series, but I’m sure it’s good!

I haven’t read many of these, but loved A Study in Scarlet and The Painted Veil, and Lorna Doone was one of those that seemed to drag a bit, especially at the beginning, but I ended up really enjoying it. Hope you get a good one!

I have The Moonstone sitting on my shelf, but can’t remember if I read it in my youth or not. I hope you get one that you really enjoy!

Thank you, Kelly. This is one of my favorite parts of the Spins: people chiming in with their thoughts about the list! I almost read The Moonstone for Victober this year, but I had too many other choices and didn’t get to it.
